B2B companies rely on extranets to conduct business

April 27, 2006

According to a study released this week by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CTIA), more and more today, B2B companies are relying on extranets to conduct B2B sales and eCommerce activities.

The survey of b-to-b e-commerce buyers and suppliers found 74% use extranet Web sites for a portion of their b-to-b buying and selling, and 31% said their extranet Web site buying and selling had increased over the past year.

Seventy-seven percent said the shift to extranet Web sites is less beneficial than other b-to-b buying and selling mechanisms.

CompTIA said the shift to extranets can have a negative impact on both the supplier and customer in areas such as efficiency, accuracy, cost and partner relationships.
