Netezza setting up dedicated industry business unit

May 26, 2005

Appliance vendor and datawarehousing specialist Netezza is wishing to increase its retail and consumer packaged goods business after setting up a dedicated industry business unit.

The Netezza Retail and CPG Division will tackle these two data -intensive verticals more aggressively with its low-cost, high-performance Netezza Performance Server (NPS) appliance. The division will be headed up by two senior directors with a combined 80 years of experience in the retail sector.

Earlier this week Framingham, Massachusetts-based Netezza signed a partnership with industry specialists QuantiSense to jointly deliver data warehousing solutions to retailers. Netezza also announced a major win with retailer Amazon.com. Other major retail customers include Ahold USA, Shoppers Drug Mart and TJX Companies.

NPS stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query. The net result is a data warehousing system that offers high-scalability (10 to 50 times faster than conventional data warehouse, according to Netezza) and at a much lower cost.
